Years ago, when I was pastoring one of the churches that I've passtor had a couple come to me for marriage counseling. They've been married for twenty, five, thirty years. It's unusual for a couple's married that wall to come for counseling, but they reached the point in their marriage where they were having some difficulties and so I came to counseling and so I sat there and I asked what what the issue was...

...and she said he doesn't really communicate with me, he doesn't talk with me. I'll asking something in you just mumbles, you won't really tall flat turned to the gentleman and I said is this accurate? He said Yep, let's it. Okay. Why is that? He said, it's always been like that, and she knew that when she married me. She knew I was like that when she married so I probed a little more. I said, is it just her that you don't communicate with? And he said what do you mean? So well, you go honey with your friends. Do you talk to them? Do you visit with them? Yep. I said,...

...okay, aren't your friends more important to you than your marriage? Nope, but she knew I was like this when she married. Then said, well, I appreciate your honesty. Let me ask you this question. She may have known that when she married you, but I think if you asked her, that was a part of you that she wished she could have changed before she married. She didn't marry you because you're like that. She married you in spite of the fact your like that, and so I want to ask you, would you be willing to come to some counseling sessions to possibly change? Is your marriage mean that much to you? Look Down, look back...

...up. He said Yeah, preacher, it does. So we did some marriage counseling and did some weeks of counseling and God began working and is really need to see what God did through all of that. However, I use that as an example, that a lot of times we excuse our behavior by saying that's the way I am. She knew I'm like that. God knows I'm like that, and we continue to do wrong by saying, well, God knows that about me. She knows that about me, he knows that about me, God understands my weaknesses. It would be good to remember that God is Holy, even though God understands, he is hope. would be...

...good to remember that while Jesus is our best friend, he is also God and as such, there should be reverence. Are Reading for today was Deuteronomy Twenty three through twenty five, which dealt with various laws and uncleanness. I'm going to read from Deuteronomy Twenty three, verses twelve through fourteen. You shall also have a place outside the camp. Go out there. You shall have a shovel among your tools, and it shall be when you sit down outside, you shall did with it and shall turn to cover up your excrement. So the Lord, your God, walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to defeat your enemies before you. Therefore, your camp must...

...be over and he must not see anything indecent among you. Are He will turn away. Now this is an unusual text. Those of you who are reading through the Bible for the first time. The Bible's full of fun text you're like, wow, God told him to go outside the camp and use the rest room outside the camp with his shovel. That's interesting. Bibles full of these type of texts, but there's always principles in them, and we'll see one even today. The Israelites were commanded that when nature hit, Tak a shovel, go outside the camp, relieve yourself and cover it up. Odd Indeed for this to be in the law of Moses, in a book which address the Ten Commandments and obedience to God, we have a text here on Personal Higi perhaps even more odd was the rationale God gave when he gave...

...these instructions. They were to go outside the camp, to use the rest room and cover it up, because God walks in the midst of the camp to defeat their enemies and he must not see anything indecent among them. That's strange. God sees all things. Further, God made the human body. He knows what nature does with the human body. While using the restroom might be a private activity, it is normal activity an activity which is necessary and...

...for which our bodies were made, and the creator of our bodies, who sees all things, now declares to the Israelites where there to use the rest root outside the camp and further there, to cover it, because God, who sees everything, must not see anything in decent among strange and odd reason, perhaps God is revealing that, while he sees everything and while he created the human body, we should not be so comfortable in his presence that we don't revere him, that while God made us and he's our best friend,...

...we should never get so comfortable that there's no reverence for God. Perhaps God is revealing while Jesus is certainly closer than a brother, he nevertheless is still the Almighty one, the Alpha and the Omega. Perhaps this is why our grandparents wore ties to church. Perhaps this is why me and testified of trembling when they prayed to God. Perhaps this is why men and women spent powers on their knees in prayer, because they understood a reverence for God. Yes, they were close to me, yes, he meant more than everything,...

...but they revered and gave him the reverence he deserved. I'm so grateful for Jesus. I'm so grateful that he has always been there when no one else was. I'm so grateful he is my best friend, but may I never forget that he is a lion. While he's a lion that allows us to pay him, he's still a liar and as such, deserves reverence. He is more than worthy of our reverence. I cannot excuse my sin by saying God made me and so he understands how I am. Yes, he made...

...me, but then he's see the holy spirits now in me that I might change and be conformed to the image of Christ. I can change, so can you, because God saved us and lives in us. Don't ever say God made me this way and he understands why I see. No, he doesn't. He may understand our weaknesses, but he's given US grace to overcome our sin. Don't ever use God's knowledge of you as an excuse to not change and see him. We can change and out of reverence for the God...

...who saved us, we should change and become more like Jesus. Can We pray that to day? Just pray that will be more like Jesus. I want to lead us in prayer before I do. I want to remind you tomorrow will be in Deuteronomy Chapters Twenty six through twenty eight, but let's go to the Lord and father. We thank you for your word. Thank you. We're making our way through this amazing book, the second giving of the law deuteronomy, right before the Israelites walked into the promising thank you for reminding us from this text to day, while you made us and while you see all things, such as not an excuse to see him, you saved us, to change us, to make us more like Christ. May We do...

...so today. God, I pray for Change. May we become more like Jesus and send his name. We thank you again for joining us today. I'll see you tomorrow.
