I remember the first time I heard those words. My Dad had given US boys a chore of Weeding The Guard Nail. For those who don't know what weeding is, the weeding is the chore of Getting All the Weeds from around the plants in a garden. So you go and weeding, get those...

...weeds out. We only had one ho and my older brother typically would use the hole, which means my younger brother and I would pull the weeds. But my dad said, boys, I want y'all to weed the garden tomorrow. Want you to do it right, get it done. Okay, yes, we came home from school and immediately we went out there starting weating. But you know, it was in the springtime and one full summer yet. The Sun would go down a little bit sooner than we wanted and we always wanted to play, and so we knew that the sooner we finished weating, the more time we had to play. And so we went through and we we did and we did an okay job. Was it the best job, but it was okay. We got the big weeds and we thought, you...

...know, those little weeds, we can get those another week. My Dad got home that evening. We were in full play mode. By the time dad got home. He gets homely polls in the driveway and first thing he does, we gets out of his car, is he sees us out playing, but he walks down to the garden. He's down there walk around the garden. Now we're noticing him. At this point. He says boys, calere. We go down there and my dad says, I want y'all to look at this half I won't say what he said, but half done job. He said, I won't let Y'all to look at this half done job. And he said tomorrow you're going to come in from school and you're going to do it all and in addition to weeding the garden, I want y'all to do this as well, and you want us to put some dirt in the driveway and he said, boys, the reason I'm doing this is because...

...when you do something, you need to do it right the first time. I never forgot that lesson. Sometimes I think I'm becoming my dad I say that to my boys today. You need to do it right the first time, but it's still true. Do it right the first time. It's a lesson, by the way, that the children of Israel model when it came to building the Tabernacle. We're finishing out the book of Exodus Today. We're reading exodus thirty eight through forty I'm going to read from exodus chapter thirty nine versus thirty two through forty three. So all the work on the Tabernacle, the ten of meeting was completed. The Israel did everything just as the Lord commanded. Knows us. Then they brought the Tabernacle, the Moses, the...

...tent and all its furnishing, its clash frames, crossbars, posts and bases, the covering of the Ramskins dyed red, the covering of another durable leather and the shielding curtain, the Ark of the Covenant Law with its Poles and the atonement covered, the table with all its articles and the bread of the presence the pure gold lamp, said, with its row of lamps and all its accessories and the olive oil for the light. The Gold Altar, the anointing, all the Fragrant Incense and the curtain for the entrance to the tent, the bronze altar with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils, the basin with its stand, the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard, the ropes and tent pegs for the courtyard, all the furnishings of the Tabernacles, the tin...

...of meeting and the woven garments warned for ministering in the sanctuary, both the sacred garments for Erin the priest and the garments for its size when serving its priests. The Israelites had done all the work, just as the Lord had commanded Moses, Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commended, so Moses blessed them. I have always felt Christians have an opportunity to evidence to the world our love for God by the way we do things. I've always felt Christians ought to do everything to the best of their ability, as unto the Lord, and that's exactly what happened...

...here in the Old Testament. They worked and presented it and it was done right the first time because it was done as unto the Lord. Whatever task we undertake, we are to do as unto the Lord. According to Paul's command and Caausius three twenty three, our labors are to be offerings unto our God, and in the text today it is emphasized on numerous occasions that the children of Israel did the work just as the Lord commanded it. They obeyed God's word to a tea. And as we read the text, we must admit it's not one of the most inspiring texts that we read. I'm not trying to denigrate it at all, obviously as the word of God and there's power contained within it and it's exciting just by it being the word of God.

However, I must admit it doesn't touch my soul as Daniel in the lions did, or chat right me, shack and Abednego. It doesn't move me like the Cross of Jesus Christ or Stephen being martyred for his faith nevertheless, it's God's word and it's just as powerful as any other part. On a closer reading, in fact, we realize that the faithful obedience of the children of Israel is what's highlighted, obedience which is followed even in the smallest of details. And there it is the lesson I would submit to you. Had Daniel not been faithful in the smallest of details, we would never read...

...about up Daniel in the lions dead. That at Shadrach, Meshach and a been to go not then obedience in the smallest of areas, we wouldn't have read about their obedience in the large areas. You see, it was this, in a very real way, this text today, which provides the path to those other powerful victories. It's obedience in the small that provides victory in the great. I've never really struggled with obeying God in the big areas. I'm not tempted today to go out and do drugs. I'm just not. Those are not temptations. I'm not tempted to forsake my vows. I'm not tempted to lie. I've made a commitment to God. I don't mind. I'm not tempted to cheat when I go to school, and and by the...

...way, I'm in school right now work on NBA. I'm not ever even tempted a cheat those big areas. I'm not tempted to steal those big areas. I'm not even tempted to follow in. However, I am tempted to overeat at times. I am tempted to waste I'm on vain things. I am tempted to cut my quiet times. Sure, in fact, I'm tempted to do the minimum on things that I don't feel are important. That's my temptation. We all have our own. Some of you are tempted in big areas, some and small. But here's the key. We will ultimately fall in the big areas if we're not faithful in the small. And so right now I'm not currently tempted in the big areas. If I'm not faithful in the small, one day I will be. I've got to be faithful in...

...the small. In fact, the temptations we have are very real, and so the lesson for today is that you and I give our best to God in the small areas. In whatever we undertake, may we do so as unto the Lord, and this will be a constant battle for the rest of our lives. But this text can provide a constant reminder for the rest of our lives. Something as small as pulling weeds deserves my best, deserves your best as unto the Lord. May I seek to do that today in the small areas. I'm just out pulling weeds. May I do it as unto...

...the Lord. Well, tomorrow will be in Levitt because I'm so excited about that book. I'll be sharing more about that as we start tomorrow, but I want to close us in prayer today. Father, we come to you today and we thank you so much for your word. Thank you for the reminder. Here's we closed out the book of Exodus, of the importance of being faithful in the details of life. Father, forgive me when I'm not always faithful in those details. Help me to be more faithful. Strengthen me through that. But be temptations we face till the end of our lives, but may we face them with the victory and working and living as unto the Lord. Jesus name we prove. Thank you again for joining us. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
