Hello and welcome to read Your Bible devotional with Pastor Brad Reynolds. We are reading through the Bible in a year. This daily devotional will help keep your heart in mind and God's word. If you were to make a daily trip of slate twenty five miles. So you had to travel twenty five miles to and from work and I gave you the option. Okay, would you like to use a vehicle or do you want to use roller skates? What would you say, pastor? Are you nuts? We want to use a vehicle, of course. But what if I ask that same question to someone who had never even seen a car? What if I ask that question to a person who all they had ever used was roller skates? Then you would it was the wall, then you want it was the roller skate. They had no clue about some car. They said, okay, I'll tell you what, I won't Roller Skates. Why? Because I know what roller skates can do. I don't know what this car can do. So I won't Roller Skates. After you and I got up off the floor from hilarious disbelief, we would obviously say there's no comparison. You Know Cook Roller Skates. You don't know cars, but I'm telling you, I know them both and there's no comparison. It's a lesson that Moses would learn when he asked God,...
God, I know about the Gods in Egypt. Are you better than them? I know how powerful they are. Can you compete with them? And of course God, after he gets all up off the heavenly floor from laughing, he says, Oh, Moses, you know very, very little. Well, we find our way into exodus. Today we're an exodus chapters one through fours. Were reading through the Bible. Let's kind of bring us up to date. Where we are. We're reading through the Bible chronologically, and so what that means is we're going to, as events occurred, address those events, no matter where they are in scripture. And so we went through genesis because chronologically, those events took pluck place first, the creation of the world. That was first, and so we went through that. We ended genesis with Joseph kind of second in charge in Egypt under Pharaoh at the time, and then we took an ex curses into joe. Why? Because the events of Genesis would have occurred all the way up to around from the beginning at to around eighteen hundred BC, and then the events of Joe would have occurred around two thousand two, twenty three, twenty one hundred BC, somewhere in there. And so we moved from exodus, I mean from Genesis, to Joe. Now we're coming back to exodus and these events are going to take place somewhere around one fourteen hundred BC. And so from the time of the end of Genesis until exodus, for hundred years at past, not a lot has been heard from God or written about during these four Hundred Years Between Joseph and Moses. That's where we find ourselves today. And of course I exod this was written by Moses, as Genesis was, under the inspiration...
...of God. But we're going to be especially in exodus chapter three, verses ten through fourteen. This is where Moses had that burning Bush experience with God versed in. Therefore, come now, I will send you to Pharaoh so that you may bring my people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt. But Moses said to God, who am I that I should go to Payah now, I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt, and he said, certainly, I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you. You brought the people out of Egypt. You shall worship God on this mountain. Then Moses said to God, behold, I'm going to the sons of Israel and I will say to them the God of your father's has sent to me. They'll say, what's his name? What shall I say to them? God said, I am who I am. Help them that. Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, the I am has sent me to you. In Egypt, we see this in chapter one. The current Pharaoh, which in Egypt, the dynasties had changed. In fact, this is probably a whole new people group that was in control of Egypt. Then the ones that were in control in one thousand eight hundred, and so Joseph and the Israelites were in favor, and then we have a new dynasty that had defeated the old dynasty, a whole New People Group that's come in, and so the Jews, who were in Egypt now are in bondage to this new Fayreoh through this new group of people and the old one. They were together, they were honored, they were respected, they coexisted, live alongside each other. But this new one and we don't know Joseph, we don't know Abraham, Isaac. You Jews, you'll be our servants, you will be our...
...slaves. We've conquered the other Egyptians. We're now in charge. You will be our slaves. And the current Pharaoh had actually issued a death warrant for all Jewish babies exous wanted to. Thus, Moses had a death warrant on him even before his birth, but as mom placed him in a floating wooden box, referred to as an art symbolizing both Moses Deliverance and the use of Moses to deliver God's children. Ironically and miraculously, payare's daughter Finds Moses in this floating box, brings him into Faarao's palace and raises him as her own. Pharaoh is a grandfather to Moses. Moses is a prince in Egypt. Further Moses own mother is asked to come nurse him, and she's actually paid to nurse her own child, because they don't know it's her job. What Amazing Providence by God. By the time we get here to Exoterus, chapter three, it's evident that God's been pursuing Moses for a relationship. He speaks to Moses from a Bush which is on fire. Now Moses had been raised as a prince of Egypt. He had seen some of his fellow Jews persecuted. He ended up killing an Egyptian for beating one of the Jews, and so now he's fled out away from Egypt for safety and he's out watching the herds flots he sees a Bush that's on fire yet not consuming. So he says, let me go looking out. God's pursuing Moses. He tells Moses he wants to use Moses to change the world by leading the Israelites out of Jeda, out of Egypt and by making a great nation out of the Jews,...
...using Moses. Moses as his doubts both about his ability and this God who's speaking to him. Thus, he has two questions. The first is what most of us would ask when we come to realize that God might want to use us to change the world. Okay, God, you want to use us to change the world? Who Am I? Moses had that question. Moses had a speak each impediment. You know, often times I've wished I had a better voice. I've wished I had a more Adrian Rogers type voice, and I don't. Maybe you oftentimes have looked at others and thought and I wish I had what they had. I don't have those talents, I don't have those abilities, I just don't have that. And then God shows up in all of our weaknesses and they said, you know what, I want to use you. We're like God, not not me. God, I could see you using so andso. I could see you using so Andso, but, God, I don't have a lot of talents and abilities. Who Am I? In addition, Moses had a difficult past. He was a murderer. Not only did they have a speech impediment, but he had seems that plagued him from his past. Maybe you and I have the same as well. Not only do we look at our weaknesses, our talents as weaknesses, but we also think about our failures. Say, God, how can you use me now? I don't have talents. I've got to pass this horrible God, I could see you using so andso. I mean...
...he's amazing. I could see you using so and so. She's just so gifted. God, I can't see you using me. That's what Moses was. In other words, Moses recognized his weaknesses and he's plagued by his past field failures. You and I are also plagued by our past failures and we wonder, could God use us, just as Moses wonder. We understand why Moses nound it. We understand why Moses said, God, He sure, who am I? God's answer to Moses, which, by the way, is the same answer he would give to Uni, is Moses said doesn't matter who you are. In fact, as you're reading there and exit the three, you'll see God ever addresses anything. God doesn't say. Well, Moses, you know, let me kind of walk you through all your strengths. Now, granted, Moses, you're not a good speaker, but you're Iq is pretty good. And granted, Moses, you've got a pass that's pretty bad, but you know, you've got a future. That's really God doesn't want Moses through Moses His qualities. He gives that to it. He says, okay, you got a point, Moses, you're not very gifted, you don't have a lot of talents, you do have a bad pass. Never even addresses it, he just skips over in fact, has answer to Moses basically was it. Does it matter who you are? All that matters is who I am. I can use a murder, I can use someone who can't speak, I can use someone with no gifts, I can use someone with no talents, I can use someone with a pass. Your used to change the world is not dependent upon your talents or your past. It's only dependent upon me. What a powerful message. Don't let our past or...
...our mistakes, are our inabilities, are I insecurities, ever lead us to question if God can use us. Don't ever blaspheme God by saying he can't use you. My God can do anything and he's great at using that which the world sees is nothing to do great things. So Moses says, okay, I'll grant that to you. I guess it's not de Penner of on me, it's depenter upon you. So who are you? Whom, shall I say, sent me? I know the Gods of Egypt. I was raised with the Gods of Egypt. I know how powerful they are. I know the Gods of pleasure, I know the Gods of possessions, I know the Gods of power, I know the Gods of popularity. God, can you compare to the pleasures of this world? God, can you compare to the popularity of men? God, can you compare to the possessions of this world? God, can you compare to the powers in this world? That's what he's asking. Who Are you? I know these other gods. Who Are you? And God's answer is revealing. I am you're what I am every day. I am life, I am existence. Nothing exists outside of me. Your very existence, your very ability to even speak back to me right now, it is depend upon me. I'm life itself. Everything depends on me. Whatever you can think of that is amazing is depended upon God.
Yes, how foolish to ask if God can compare with the pleasures of this world, if God could compare with the possessions of this world, if God could compare with the popularity of this world. How foolish he is. Exist sense, everything this world has a offer is dependent upon him. Listen, God wants to use you and me to change our world, and it doesn't matter that we don't have a lot of gifts. It doesn't matter what our past is. All that matters is who he is and he can do it because he is everything. What a powerful message. Well, I hope you've enjoyed that. Will continue our study through exodus. I want to ask you to read EXOS chapters five through seven as we prepare for tomorrow. Let me close us in the prayer. Father, thank you for this amazing, amazing word, a reminder that you want to use everyone watching this right now to change their world. Lord, a lot of those watching are like myself. We look at our talents and abilities and confess we don't have much. We look at others who are far more talented and gifted and we say God put about them. And you remind us today your use of us is not dependent upon our abilities. What a great word, father. You also remind us that your use of us is not dependent upon our past either. Many...
...of us have a pass that we're ashamed of within. Oh my goodness, look at how many times we fail, and yet you say that your use of us is not dependent upon that. I pray these words into the lives of those listening. Whatever their past is, they'll know today with a certainty from God's word that you want to use them to change the world and their past is gone and you can use them to change the world, because it's not dependent upon our past or our bilities, solely dependent upon you, the Great God that can do anything through anyone. Lord, may we never forget that, whatever you call us to be dealing with, confidence to need it. Jesus, and thank you again for joining us and I'll see you again tomorrow.
