Good afternoon again and glad you're back to join us. We're making our way through the Bible and we begin in Genesis. We're doing it chronologically and so we're in genesis right now. After Genesis we will move to job and then from job will come back to exodus. But we're in genesis. We're finishing up the book of Genesis. Are Reading for today's you know, is genesis forty seven through fifty. So let's kind of walk through what's occurred so far. At the beginning of Genesis,...

...of course God grade the heavens in the earth. You have the creation account, genesis one and two. Those accounts there one a general account, another one specifically genesis to God's relationship with man. You have genesis three, the follow man. You Have Genesis for Kanaan able. We have genesis five and six, seven and eight, moving into the flood, genesis nine, after the flood. We get to genesis twelve and we have Abraham and from Genesis twelve own as the story of Abraham in his progeny. So you have Abraham and the God's covenant with Abraham, Abraham and Isaac, Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac, Isaac, the Promised Child, having Jacob and he saul, the struggle between Jacob and Esaul got saving Jacob, him becoming Israel, him having twelve sons. The older sons are a group of them selling Joseph into bondage and...

...we get to the end of Genesis. That's where we are. We're in that's story of Joseph, and so that kind of gives us an idea of genesis. Again. Moses wrote Genesis somewhere around, Oh, fourteen BC, somewhere in that area. But and with me today a shotgun shell. Hope you can recognize that. We called this when I was growing up bird kill and that's what we did with it. We would go hunting and shoot dove or shoot out. But it reminds me of hunting. It makes me think of hunting. And as I think of hunting I think about my dad, my dad, when we were growing up, on a few occasions he would...

...get us boys to gather and he'd say, all right, we're going to go on a deer hunting trip, and this was more just for him to spend time with the boys. It wasn't for his enjoyment. I imagine him getting everything ready for those deer hunting trips and making sure everyone was safe, and all of that was a labor so it wasn't for his enjoyment. Rather it was for him spending time with us. You know, all those trips I went with my dad, I never killed one deer, not one dear it all those times, but I loved them. Wasn't about the deer, it was about spending time with that took my oldest son hunting not long ago we went deer hunting. A friend here at the Church said come on out, I'll take ye all out and it was my first time to take my oldest son deer hunting and, true to his father, we didn't kill one...

...dear. It just didn't happen. But we had so much fun. In fact, after spending two hours out hunting, and walking. He said, Daddy, can we do this again? Didn't even see a dear Daddy, can we do it again? Because it was spending time. That's not just about honey. That's fishy. Throwing a football, taking a trip, just about anything, it's not the journey's who's on the journey with you. A wonderful lesson we have here in Genesis, Chapter Forty Nine, and I'm going to read Genesis Forty Nine, verses twenty two through twenty six. Doctor John Phillips, in his commentary on this passage, calls this the judgment seat of Jacob, and it would be a pointing to the judgment seat of Christ when we would give an account to God for our lives. But notice verse twenty two. Joseph is a fruitful vibe, a fruitful vibe near a spring whose...

...branches climb over a wall. With bitterness, archers attack him. They shot at him with hostility, but as bau remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber because the hand of the mighty one of Jacob, because of the shepherd, the rock of Israel, because of your father's God, who helped you, because of the Almighty who blesses you with blessings of the sky above, blessings of the deep sprints below, blessing of the breast and womb. Your father's blessings are great, greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains. Then the bounty of the aged heels. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the Prince. Among his brothers, Jacob had assembled his son's outside of his room for what they were to receive from his...

...death bed. It was time for their judgment. He was about to die and he was bringing them in one by one, and he brings him in and some of them are judged for what they have done. In fact, the oldest Ruben, according to Old Testament law, was to receive a double blessing, a double portion of everything else everyone else received. He, because he's the oldest, was to receive a double portion. But he had secretly crept into his father's bedroom and in Genesis, Chapter Thirty Five and Verse Twenty Two, you can go back and read it, he had slept with his father's concubine. A wretchedness, a wretched, wicked act of which we have no record that he had ever repented. Perhaps he thought no one soul. Perhaps he thought no one knew, perhaps he thought he had gotten away with it. But then Judgment Day came. Then he had to come and give...

...an account to his father for how he behaved. And there in genesis forty nine and the first few verses you can see Jacob Addressing Reuben, and Jacob was a Reuben, was told that he would not excel verse four of Chapter Forty Nine. Know that the line of Reuben in the Old Testament produced no profits, no judges and no kings. What his dad said surely came to pass. His father's judgment was accurate because he had committed a sin, a wretched Sein, and he had never repented of it, and now he would give an account. The next two in line had brought public shame on their father. They had killed an entire group of people in Genesis Chapter thirty four...

...because their sister had been raped. Rather than going to their father and getting things done correctly and punishing the one who had sin, they killed an entire group of people, all the men in a group, a tribe of people. And so again, because they brought public shame on the name of their father, they were judged. There in genesis forty nine. The tribes which would proceed from these two, Levi and Simeon, would be lost, just as Jacob said. Now it is interesting to see that the tribe of Levi gained back a place of honor because of their faithfulness in the book of numbers, but the tribe of Simeon is lost. It was replaced by one of the half tribes of Joseph. You see this giving of an account to the father at the end of their lives. I love Dr John Phillips and how...

I says this is the judgment seat of Jacob pointing to the judgment seat of Christ where we will give an account for our lives. I imagine after Reuben came out, after seemeon and Levi came out, that those gathered around were kind of worried what's going to happen? They saw the distraught on Reuben's face, they saw the tears and sadness is Levi and Simeon come out and I'm sure they wondered what's going to happen, what's going to happen with us as we give an account for our eyes? That's a reminder when we stand before the judgment seat of Jesus that we will give an account for all the sins of which we haven't repented. I encourage you. Just at that thought right now. If there's a sin in your life that you've not repented of, just go ahead and do it right now. God, I ask you to forgive me of that sin. I repent of it. I'm no longer going...

...that way. I'm turning to you. If you've ever brought shame on the name of Christ, would you just ask forgiveness? God, forgive me of that right now. What a beautiful lesson we see here. But you know what, as each brother went in to receive their reward, Joseph was waiting for his turn. I don't think Joseph was nervous at all. I don't think Joseph was outside wringing his hand. Think you through. Okay, what have I done wrong? What do I need to repein up? What's going on? Am I going to be said to? I don't think that was the case at all. In fact, and you he had been away from his father for a prolonged season of time and he had longed to visit with his father. He knew he had been faithful to his father and faithful to his father's desires. He knew he had lived a life of which his father could be proud and rather than going in to receive a reward, which he...

...did, I think he was just anxious to spend time with the father. I don't believe it was the reward Joseph was waiting on. I believe it was time with the father. Imagine Joseph was looking forward to this day to have incredible fellowship with his father, and Jacob was looking forward to it also, Jacob Getting to see that faithful child of his face to face and spending some time, as he came before that judgment seat. So I asked myself, do I long for the judgment seat of Christ? Do you? Do I long to sit and visit with Christ, knowing I have lived in such a way as to bring him honor? I do I have things for which I need to forsake, things of which I need to ask forgiveness. Are...

...you longing for that day? By the end of this devotion? Time to day, I hope we are all excited about our future with Jesus Christ. I hope we're all excited about our time with our heavenly father. You know, as I share this. I want to just encourage you to look forward to that time. I don't know will be throwing a football in heaven with her father. I'm not sure that will be running up and down the streets playing tag with our father, but I do know this. I know there will be some sweet fellowship. I know God has wanted to spend time with us, facetoface, and we so look forward to that Glorious Day when forever get to spend time with our father and our ward and Savior, Jesus Christ. Well, our reading for tomorrow is Joe Chapters one through four, and...
