ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Welcome and thank you for joining ustoday. This is read your Bible devotional and we are reading through the Bibleany year. This ten to fifteen minute daily devotional with pastor Brad grinalds willkeep your heart in mind in God's word. And we're back. Thank you forjoining us again today, excited as we continue to make our way throughthe Bible. On December, seventh of two thousand and nineteen, I liveallied to my little boy. I promised Gavin son for your birthday we're goingto take you to Phinopolis and we're going to have three hours of fun andyou can invite some friends and we're going to leave and we're going to gothere and you can climb a rock wall...

...and we can ride go cards andwe can play Arcade Games and we can go bowling and we can play lasertag. There's so much fun. We're going to have a blast. Andon that day I left work early and I got home and we got Gavinand all the other kids and when went picked up as friends and off wedrove to phenopolis and we got there and we pulled into Phinopolis and we noticeand there's more cars here than normal. Today there's a flagman outside and hewaved us down and he said are you with so andsoul company and I saidNo. He said, well, I'm sorry, this is a private partyfor them tonight. I said on a Friday night at Phinopolis, a privateparty? He said yes, they rented it out, and I just wasdevastated because I'm you. Even though it wasn't intentional, I lied to mylittle boy. I told him we do...

...something and we didn't do it.One of the truths that I found in that is that I'm a sinner, even when I don't want to be, even when I have good motives,I miss the mark. I make mistakes, as do you. We all seehim and this is a reminder that God teaches us in Genesis. Todaywe're in Genesis Chapter Fifteen. Are Reading for the day was genesis twelve throughfifteen, but here in Genesis Fifteen God reveals to able this incredible truth that, even with the peerst of hearts, we all see it, we allmake mistakes. I want to read versus five through seventeen of Genesis. Afterfifteen, the Bible says. And he took him outside and said now looktoward the heavens and count the stars,...

...if you are able to count them. He said to him, so shall your descendants be? Then he believedin the Lord God Reckon it to him for righteousness, and he said tohim I am the Lord who brought you out of her of the Coldean's togive you this land, to possess it. And he said, Oh, LordGod, how only I know. I will possess so he said tohim, bring me a three year old hepper, a three year old female, go to three year old Ram, and a turtle, doven young pigeon. Then he brought all these to him and he cut them into and laideach half opposite of one another. They did not cut the birds. Thebirds of prey came down from the carcasses or upon the carcasses, but Abramdrove them away. When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fellon Abram and behold terror and great darkness...

...fell upon him. God said,Abram, know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a lamb thatis not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed four hundred years. But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve. And afterward theywill come out from with many possessions. As for you, you shall goto your father's and peace. You will be buried at a good old age. Then, in the fourth generation, they will return here, for theiniquity of the Amorrights is not yet complete. And it came about when the sunhad said that it was very dark, and behold there appeared a smoking ovenand a flaming torch which passed between these pieces. On that day,the Lord made a covenant with Abraham. What a powerful passage. First reading, we don't understand what's going on. God says Abraham, Abraham, basically, I'm going to be your God and...

...your and your descendants will be mypeople and you're going to possess this lamb. And Abraham says, in Verse A, how, Lord, how will this happen? Now? The questionin verse a is not a question of can you do it, God?We are already told that Abram believed God. Wasn't a question of can got doit, it was a question of how can I have a relationship withyou? I'm sinful. How can I experience a relationship with the allmight? And to answer that question, and God says, Abral go get these animalscut them into now this would have been known as a blood covenant that day. It was a covenant where two individuals...

...could make with each other. Abrahamwould have been familiar with it. And you'd take these animals and you'd cutthem in half and you'd lay one on one side and one on another sideand allow that blood to kind of drain into a little dipch if you will, and you'd stand on one end and the person that you were making theblood covenant with but stand on the other, and then you'd start walking towards eachother through the blood and as you're walking towards each other, you wouldsay, if I break this covenant with you, may what happened to theseanimals happened to me, and you'd meet in the middle and you'd agree toeach other. We're not going to break this cove. That's exactly what Godwas doing here. He was giving a blood covenant with Abril and God wassaying to Abril Abram, I'm going to make this covenant with you and thisis how I'm going to have a relationship...

...with you. And then we seethere in verse seventeen that God passes through, walks through in between these dead animalsthrough the blood. Abram doesn't move. There's no meeting in the middle.God goes all the way through to meet Abram where he is. Godis saying very clearly, Abram, you're not going to be able to keepthis covenant. Abram, you're going to see in Abram, you're right. There's no way you can have a relationship with me on your end because you'regoing to fail over and over again. You're going to see. But I'lltell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to walk through it andI'm going to keep my word because I can't break it. And when youbreak your word to me, may what...

...happened to these animals happened to me. How was it that God could have a relationship with Abram? How wasit that God could have a relationship with sinful man? Very clearly by saying, Abram, you can't own your end, but I will. I can't breakmy word, and when you break your word, I'll die so thatwe can have this fellowship. What an amazing truth from the word of God. God revealed that the way sinful man could dwell in the presence of Godin the Promised Land was through God, US home blood. There's no suchname as a small st there's no such thing as a tidy life. Everysin we commit cost Jesus his precious blood. Oh what a Savior, Oh whata God that brings us together to...

...have this amazing relationship with. Don'tyou join me and just thanking him for that. But other we thank youfor Jesus. Thank you, Jesus, for dying on the Cross. Thankyou for making the way. Like Abram, we're wondering how in the world, because we, as sinners, in any way have a relationship with you. You made it possible by sending your only son. Hallelujah, what asavior, but a God, and we thank you for that. Father.May We enjoy that relationship to him. Thank you for your word and teachings. Jesus name well, are Reading For Tomorrow Is Genesis, Chapter Sixteen throughnineteen. I'm looking forward to being back with you. Have a grating.
