ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Welcome and thank you for joining us today. This is read your Bible devotional and we are reading through the Bible in a year. This ten to fifteen minute daily devotional with pastor Brad grinalds will keep your heart in mind in God's word. Good afternoon and hope excited to have you back with us today. And we're going to be in Genesis, Chapter Ten and eleven today as we make our way through the Bible this year. Stealth attack. By word to say a stealth attack, you'd think something secret with Pope. It is perhaps the most potent of all attacks in war weaponry. What? Because it's not just the potency of that attack, it's the surprise of it. Creeps up and all of a sudden it's there. What is the stealth attack for a...

Christian? what is the CN that just creeps into our lives without us even knowing about it and all of a sudden creates an incredible fall for a Christian's pride? Pride is the stealth attack or Christian the IT's one of the most dangerous sins you and I can commit and it comes in unknowing, creeping in and all of a sudden it brings about a grateful that's exactly what happens in Genesis Chapter Eleven. We're going to see as genesis chapter eleven. We're going to read verse one through Verse Nine, but we're going to see the pride of these group of people. Notice, if you will, verse one. Now the whole Earth use the same language in the same words. Came about, as they journeyed east, that they found a plane in the land of...

Shinar. Settled there, they said to one another, come, let us make bricks and burn them thorough, and they use brick for a stone and tar for more or clay. They said, come, let us build for ourselves a city and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name. Otherwise will be scattered over the whole face of the earth. The Lord God came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men at built. The Lord said, behold, they are one people with one language there, and this is what they begin to do. Nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. Come let us go down and confuse their language so that they will not understand one another's speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad. From there, over...

...the face of the whole word and they stopped building the city. Therefore, its name was called battle, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole Earth, and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of the earth. Old Earth first word says, let us make a name for ourselves. Oh the wretched death of human pride. Pride is an insidious sin that creeps into the lives of even the most saintly of all Christians. Pride is not like the sin of infidelitry, infidelity. No, pride is not that obvious, but it can be far more dangerous and destructive than even the sin of infidelity. It is the stealth attack on a Christian life and once...

...pride enters into one's life, turns on its cloaking device so as to go unnoticed by the individual, and it's slowly destroys, tearing down. It seems to find more than enough victims even within the ranks of Christian Ministry. We recall junior. He'll once said that he's seen many pastors who constructs it down. What a sad commentary that is. Pride will destroy us. The temptation toward pride for the Christians even for ministers. Today seems to have reached nuclear dimensions. With facebook and twitter accounts. These two social networks tools make it incredibly easy to say, look at me, look at what I've done, look at what I'm doing, look at what I've felt. Oh and,...

...by the way, let's praise God for what he is doing, sneaking in a little past to God. All the while the motives of our hearts is for people to look at us. Oh, be careful about this. Sin Of Pride is greet skin. And it was the seeing of these inhabitants here at battle. They no longer needed God. They could create better than God. Did you see it? There? They had brick for stone. The creates stone? Who Creates the rocks? God? Oh, God's creation wasn't good. Man would need to make brick himself. We don't need God, we can do it better than God. And US. Also, instead of clay, they created mortyr mored and so this. They don't need God for...

...the clay. God creates the clay. They don't need God for clay, they'll create their own asphalt. They don't need God for stone, they'll create their own break. Very clearly, this pride was creeping into their lives and they wanted to create a name for them selves rather than glorifying God and doing what he said in Genesis, Chapter Nine, verse one, when he says to feel the earth. So we're not going to glorify God, we're not going to obey God, we're going to come together and we're going to do it. We won't, and Owen, by the way, will make a name for ourselves and Owen, by the way, we will build better than God can be. Oh and by the way, we don't need God. I find it interesting that although the place battle held in its boundaries, that combined genius of the entire world spoke one language. The combined genius of the...

...whole world was right here in this one place. Can you imagine the combined genius of all the world today being able to speak one language and being in one place? Can you imagine what we could do? And yet even with that combined genius, the Bible Says God came down man and all of this pride and all of his genius and all of his glory is still down hill down here. God is up here. He's so much greater than then. How dare we act like we don't need God. That's exactly what they were doing. In the end, rather than making a great name for themselves, they were given the name battle, which means confusion or humility. I do find it very interesting here that as God comes down and and he sees this...

...great work of Man and all their pride, that they end up earning this name of humility. Ever, than making a great name for themselves, they are humble. They earned the humiliating name of bable and once interesting is even in the following chapter. See, when you get into Genesis, chapter twelve, we see Abril and Abram obeys God. Abram follows God and in so doing Abram gets a new name. Don't miss is here at Babel. They were going to make a name for themselves and all their pride. God brought them below and humble. It's what God says about pride. Pride comes before a fall, but those who humble ourselves obey God, honor him, he...

...exalts. It's interesting that Abril here in genesis eleven, they're going to make a name for themselves. They're brought low. Genesis twelve, Abram's going to honor God and obey, and God gives him a new name. Abraham, oh, that God might enlighten you and I in our sinful pride. Some days we live as if we don't need God. We don't pray, we don't read the Bible. Oh how wretched we are. We do need God. We needing today, and maybe you just want to confess that in a prayer. Just say God, I need and humble ourselves before it and confess we can't do it on our own, we can't make it ourselves. We need him, and you know what happened when that. We do that, God will bless us, God will build us. I want to pray that...

...for you right father, I pray for all of those who are watching this. I ask, in Jesus name, as where studying the Bible, that you might build us as we humble ourselves and obey you. God. We don't want it to be about us. We don't want to use the platforms you've given us to make our name gry. We want it to be about you. We ask you to do that and we ask that we would every day that gendly. In Jesus name. We well, thank you for joining us again today. We'll see you tomorrow and, by the way, the Reading For Tomorrow Is Genesis, Chapter Twelve through fifty. We'll see them.
